Photographer Raghubir Singh once said that India knows colour through intuition. Colour in India is more than just visual aesthetics, it has its own seasons, its own symbolism and sociology. Each colour tells a complex story.

We look at the stories linked to the colour of Spring in India At the Dargah of Nizamuddin Auliya in Delhi, spring is celebrated with everyone wearing yellow and carrying mustard pots. The yellow stone of Jaisalmer is the yellow gold for the people of the town. The yellow 'odhni' worn by the women of Rajasthan signify that they are mothers of new born sons. Yellow was the colour of sacrifice. Bhagat Singh would say 'mera rang de basanti chola'. Yellow is the colour of haldi, used prominently in traditions across India.

Maha Kumbh: The Holy Dip

Allahabad, one of the prominent and sacred cities of India, is described with great reverence in ancient scriptures as Prayag or Teerathraj, i.e. 'the holiest pilgrimage center, The city is situated at the confluence of India's holiest rivers - The Ganga, The Yamuna and The Mythical Saraswati. With the irresistible attraction of Kumbh Fair, hailed as the world's largest congregation of Devotees, the glory of the city has certainly doubled. Maha Kumbh has a mesmerizing influence over the minds of Indians as it is witness to the largest human gathering in history for the same cause on a single day irrespective of any worldy barriers of caste, creed, colour and religion.

Delhi gangrape: 'Godman' Asaram blames braveheart

Self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu has kicked up a controversy after holding the Delhi braveheart herself responsible for the barbaric sexual assault on her by a group of six men. He said, "Only five to six people are not the culprits. The victim is as guilty as her rapists. She should have called the culprits brothers and begged before them to stop. This could have saved her dignity and life. Can one hand clap? I don't think so."
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad, "Sorry! It is not acceptable. Asaram Bapu's statement on Delhi braveheart is regrettable and deeply disturbing, unfortunate. He should introspect and immediately withdraw his statement."

Protests for 'Amanat': Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit forced to return

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit showed up this afternoon at the large protest in Delhi called in memory of the 23-year-old student who died in a Singapore hospital from the horrific injuries she incurred when she was gang-raped on a bus two weeks ago. However, as she lit a candle, the chief minister was surrounded by demonstrators and then taken away by her security.

Body of 'India's Daughter' brought back to Delhi from Singapore

The body of the 23-year-old medical student, whose savage gang-rape on a moving bus provoked outrage and protests through India, has been brought back to India. A special Air India aircraft carrying the body landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport at around 4:15 am of 29 December 2012. The body was taken out of the airport in an ambulance of a private hospital through the Palam technical area.

The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab. The top court rejected a plea by Kasab, the only terrorist caught alive during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, to commute the death sentence handed to him by the Bombay High Court, to life imprisonment.

Farewell, Rajesh Khanna

The final journey of of Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna began in Mumbai. Mr Khanna's body was taken to the cremation ground in a glass casket to allow his fans, thousands of whom lined Mumbai's roads, to pay their last respects. The veteran actor died at home in Mumbai on Wednesday (July 18, 2012). He was 69 and had been battling cancer.

Security forces discover tunnel connecting India to Pakistan at Jammu

A tunnel running between India and Pakistan at the international border in the Samba sector of Jammu has been found by a Border Security Force (BSF) patrol. The tunnel, dug at a depth of 25 feet, was detected after an area caved in due to rains near a BSF outpost. It is still not clear whether the tunnel was operation or not, but the tunnel seems freshly constructed and had an air supply pipe as well.
